AEE Ohio: changing the public policy debate.
In early 2012, Governor John Kasich introduced his state energy policy, Senate Bill 315. From shale gas to compressed natural gas and industrial efficiency to state-building efficiency, the comprehensive legislation was one of the Governor’s policy achievements. One provision of the law expanded market opportunities in the state’s existing Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) and Energy Efficiency Resource Standard (EERS). AEE Ohio was instrumental in working with the Governor’s Office, policy makers and stakeholders in developing the legislative framework enacted in Senate Bill 315. Specifically, the framework added waste-energy recovery as an eligible resource under RPS and combined heat and power as an eligible resource under the EERS.
AEE Ohio recognizes the importance these technologies offer in reducing energy waste, cost and emissions – and improving Ohio’s manufacturing competitiveness. Despite being new, AEE Ohio was able to achieve this legislative win. Learn more about Senate Bill 315 here.
In 2008, with a bipartisan and near unanimous vote, Ohio enacted an Alternative Energy Portfolio Standard. This standard created market opportunities for renewable and advanced energy, and energy efficiency. Learn more here.
